How does an insurance excess work?

An insurance excess refers to the amount of money that you, as the policyholder, agree to pay towards the cost of a claim. For example, where a claim has a total cost of €5000 and your excess is €300, you will pay the excess and your insurer will pay €4700. This is a standard practice in insurance and is designed to share the financial responsibility between you and your insurer. For details on the excesses applicable under your policy, please refer to your schedule.

If I switch to OUTsurance, will I get credit for my No-Claims Discount?

You absolutely will get credit for your previous claims' free years. We accurately price our insurance premiums from the start of our relationship with you, ensuring you get full credit and the lowest premium possible. At OUTsurance, we don't believe a No Claims Discount scale is necessary to give a competitively priced insurance premium. Our advice is to get a quote with us and compare that cost against your previous premium. We believe you will be pleasantly surprised. Furthermore, you will also continue to build up your claims free record with us. We will provide you with a No Claims Certificate if you decide to leave us, allowing you to maintain your claims free record and avail of a NCD with future insurers.

Why do I need car insurance?

A car is a significant purchase. If something goes wrong or you're involved in an accident, repairs can prove expensive – especially if there’s another car involved, this is where comprehensive car insurance comes in.

Secondly, by law you must have at least Third-Party Cover in Ireland. Driving without car insurance is an offence and can result in fines, penalty points and a mandatory court appearance. In some cases, you could even be sent to prison or disqualified from driving.

Will OUTsurance provide a No Claims Bonus Certificate at the end of my policy?

We will provide you with a full No Claims Bonus Certificate if you decide to leave us. This will include details of claims-free years with OUTsurance (or claim details if you have had a claim) as well as claims-free years with previous insurers. You will also continue to get credit and build up your number of Claims Free Years while you are insured with OUTsurance. This letter allows you to maintain your claims free record and avail of a NCD with future insurers.

*Your OUTbonus is calculated using insurance premiums paid for the insurance coverage we provided during the three-year cycle. Your OUTbonus operates across all your policies with OUTsurance (with the same customer number). When you make a claim your OUTbonus is forfeited, and the three-year cycle starts again. However, certain claims like windscreen repair do not affect your OUTbonus. You need to remain a customer with OUTsurance for the entire OUTbonus period to receive your OUTbonus.
